This year marked the 10th anniversary of the ACT Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group’s CONVOY FOR CANCER FAMILIES.
The event was held on Saturday 18th February 2006.
The convoy left Northbourne Avenue (between Flemington Road and Antill Street Watson) at 4.00pm and was waved off by Annette Ellis MP.
The convoy of over 500 motorbikes, trucks, buses, fire engines, and utes lead off by Ken Kirchner Transport who was the groups 2006 lead truck travelled down Northbourne Avenue onto Commonwealth Avenuea, King Edward Terrace, Kings Avenue Bridge, into Moreshead Drive, Pialligo Avenue through to the NSW Boarder were the convoy will enter Queanbeyan along Yass Road, Bungendore Road, Monaro Street and Cameron Avenue, Glebe Avenue then into the Queanbeyan Showground.
As the convoy reached the showground, a carnival was in full swing, with activities for all members of the family. Marilyn Monro, Cher Tina Turner, Majura the Magician, Maori Dancers, Flyball dogs, and an Auction, provided the entertainment, for the adults, while the children enjoyed themselves on the rides provided by Durkins Amusements Kenny Koala, Majura the Magician as well as having their face painted.
The Convoy for Cancer Families is always a great day, and this year was no exception with residents of Canberra and Queanbeyan lining the streets to give the convoy a wave as it passes them by.
