Useful organisations to know

FaBRIC

Family Based Respite
Care Incorporated

FaBRIC is a non-profit community based organisation, which provides respite care to families in the ACT region. Families are eligible to use the service, if they have a member younger than 25years who has a disability.

FaBric works on a limited budget and a waiting list often applies. FaBRIC employees take over the caring role of the family's primary caregiver.

Carers are employed only after participating in an orientation & selection process, which includes seminars & police checks. Before care is provided a FaBRIC coordinator visits the family to assess their needs. From this report, a decision is made about access to the service & the level of care to be provided.

FaBRIC allocates a number of hours of care over a four week period, depending on each families need. These hours can be used as the family wishes within each four week period, but unused hours cannot be carried over into the next period.

FaBRIC is funded by the Commonwealth Government through Home Care & Community Care Program (HACC) & State Government.
